Art and Culture

In the town you can find a variety of facilities for the enjoyment of performing arts or flesh out the history and culture Fuerteventura.

Puerto del Rosario is the oldest of the two auditoriums on the island, which Puerto del Rosario  1conducts both performances of the various performing arts such as conferences, rallies and charity galas.

Auditorio Insular de Fuerteventura has 570 seats. On its stage many artists have passed both the Canarian landscape, as the national or international law, most notably Pedro Guerra, Manolo Vieira, Roi Hope, Gemma Cuervo, Carlos Sobera, Mirtha Ibarra, Vladimir Cruz and the National Dance Company amongst others.

Museums and galleries
In the town there are several museums as well as several thematic exhibitions both public and private, including the following:

Centro de Arte Juan Ismael: facilities in the neighborhood of El Charco, with galleries, photo labs, conference room and a workshop of artists spread over three floors.

Casa Museo de Unamuno: located in the heart of the capital, near the Island, in the place where he lived while Miguel de Unamuno took his exile in Fuerteventura in 1924. It is currently a museum that reconstructs the environment in which the philosopher lived.

Exhibition Hall of the House of Culture of Puerto del Rosario: room next to the auditorium where you can see exhibitions of painting and photography.

The Ecomuseum Alcogida: small town on Tefia with seven restored traditional houses which can be seen in vivo activities of the traditional rural life.

Sculpture park
In addition to the various halls and museums, Puerto del Rosario, has an outdoor sculpture park comprising of a large number of works by different Puerto del Rosario  2authors. The park comprises more than 50 sculptures and is provided mainly from the works created during the International Sculpture Symposium which is held annually since 2001.

During the days when we celebrate the festival, artists from different parts of the world shape their outdoor sculptures under the gaze of passers-by.

Among the highlights are Jaruga beaches, Playa Blanca and Puerto Lajas, which provide the necessary conditions for water sports such as surfing and windsurfing.
On its territory there are two protected natural areas, Rural Betancuria Park and Protected Landscape Vallebron, spread by other municipalities.

Popular festivals

King Africa during the gala of choice for Queen of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary in 2000, along with Gemma Ibanez and the gala co-host of a local television.   As in the Canary Islands, one of the most traditional festivals that is held in Puerto del Rosario are the carnivals, at varying dates between February and March.  These festivals, devoted to a theme each year, highlights the parades and the gala of choice for a carnival queen.

Another important feast in the town are the festivities in honor of Nuestra Senora del Rosario, held on October 7th.  During the last days of the festival you can attend concerts and festivals, visit the exhibition or take part in the pilgrimage, amongst other activities.  The various districts of the capital also celebrate their feasts in honor of the patterns.
