Pajara

Pajara Canary is a municipality belonging to the province of Las Palmas. PajaraLocated in the center of the island of Fuerteventura, it extends throughout the south of the Island (Jandia Peninsula).

It is the largest town on the island with an area of 383.52 km². Its altitude is 196 meters above sea level, with a coastline of 150 kilometers. The highest point of Fuerteventura is the Pico de la Zarza (807 meters) in Jandia. This peninsula is an area protected by a nature reserve.

Morro Jable, is home to major international windsurfing championships.  In Pajara town you can visit the church of Our Lady of Regla (originally built in 1687 and subsequently extended).   Pajara’s economy is centered on tourism, offering over 18,000 hotels and other places. The municipality has the largest beach in the Canary Islands. Highlights include Leeward and the Cofete of Morro Jable.

Protected natural spaces

Puerto de la Pena, Ajui
Natural monument Ajui: houses ocean sediments and fossils of marine animals of great scientific interest.

Parque Natural of Jandia covers almost the entire peninsula of the same name. With abundant endemic species, endangered species and protected species of flora and fauna.

Monument Mountain Cardon natural: scientific interest for its rich flora.

Parque Rural Betancuria: spanning the municipalities of Betancuria, Puerto del Rosario, Antigua, and Tuineje Pajara.  Its ecosystem supports the existence of water birds.

Matorral natural beach, at only 115 hectares is a site of high scientific interest.
