La Oliva

La Oliva is a municipality belonging to the Spanish province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.  It is situated in the north of the island of La OlivaFuerteventura.  In this town there are 2 parks, the Parque Natural de Corralejo, which includes its unique dunes, and the Parque Natural de Lobos Islet, which includes the island of Lobos in its entirety.
Mountain Tindaya, one of the main manifestations of cave deposits on the island, was considered magical by the Guanches.  The vegetation of the municipality is characterized by thorn scrub (eg gorse or matamoros).

Highlights include the beaches of El Cotillo and Corralejo, which has allowed the development of tourism in the municipality. On its shores are the necessary conditions for sports such as surfing, windsurfing, diving, etc.
The main population of Corralejo is 13,618 inhabitants, Villaverde 1,525 inhabitants and La Oliva 1,295 inhabitants ( 2008).

Oliva was the capital of Fuerteventura until 1880.

Cultural sites
“House of the Colonels” was founded in 1650.  Once noble, the building housed the colonels of the militia, the holders of military power from the eighteenth century and also the civilians.

“Casa de la Cilla” is an old warehouse and now hosts the Museum of the grain. This museum is dedicated to agricultural work (the collection of grain).

“Monument to Unamuno” Miguel de Unamuno was exiled for a few months in Fuerteventura in 1924.  It is by the sculptor Juan Linares Borges and is located in Burnt Mountain.
