Museums and galleries

Museum Betancuria

On the island there are several museums as well as several thematic Museums and galleriesexhibitions in both public and private, including the following:

Craft Center Old Mill is located in the municipality of Antigua, has a conference room, several exhibitions of paintings and an old mill gofio where you can appreciate its traditional machinery.

The Salt Museum: located in Las Salinas del Carmen, Antigua. Has a small center on the history of salt and the location of the different salt in the Canaries and the facilities of the Salinas del Carmen itself.

Interpretation Center of the archaeological site of the Atalayita: Well in the Black Valley, Antigua is a small town about two archaeological sites of buildings made of dry stone.
Betancuria Museum: A small museum devoted to archeology, paleontology and ethnography of the island.
Casa de la Cilla: The house in Oliva, built in 1819 where at the Grain Museum, you can view various collections of the Island’s agriculture as well as a collection of farm implements.   Centro de Arte Juan Ismael installations in Puerto del Rosario have showrooms, photo labs, conference room and a workshop of artists spread over three floors.
Cueva del Llano: Located in the vicinity of Villaverde (north of the island). Its a fantastic adventure that explores and discovers the history of volcanic eruptions.   In addition there is a single species of arachnids in the world, they live inside the cave.
Casa Museo de Unamuno: located in Puerto del Rosario, where Miguel de Museums and galleries 1Unamuno lived duration of his exile in Fuerteventura.

Exhibition Hall of the House of Culture of Puerto del Rosario: room next to the auditorium of the capital where you can see exhibitions of paintings and photography.

The Ecomuseum Alcogida: Tefia small town situated in Puerto del Rosario, with seven restored traditional houses where you can see activities of the traditional rural life.

Mills Interpretive Center: traditional house in Tiscamanita, Tuineje with collections on the different tools used for grinding grain throughout history. Beside the house, you can visit a windmill in operation.

Sculpture Park
In addition to the various halls and museums, the capital, Puerto del Rosario, has an outdoor sculpture park which comprises a large number of works by different authors. The park comprises nearly one hundred sculptures, and is provided mainly from the works created during the International Sculpture Symposium which has been held annually since 2001.

During the days when we celebrate the festival, artists from different parts of the world shape their outdoor sculptures under the gaze of passers-by.
In this sculpture park, the town of Pajara has been initiated, who has developed his art pieces for public display as an urban landscape. Foremost among these works is the book “Paths” of the Cuban sculptor Lisbet Fernandez comprising 30 pieces that represent the look to the future of several children and is highly regarded for its visual force. Besides “Pathways” (Morro Jable) there are several works of sculpture as a tribute to the sailors (Morro Jable), the Toy Wind Cesar Manrique (Costa Calma) and Goat Jose Miguel Cubas Coast (Morro Jable).
