Canary Island Fuerteventura

The Canary Island of Fuerteventura is located on the coast of Africa and is an excellent location with plenty of stunning beach shorelines and natural beauty to escape from the daily grind of life back home during the sunny and warm winter months in the Canaries.

Fuerteventura is the oldest island out of all the Canary Islands and was the result of a volcano that erupted over 70 million years ago although you Fuerteventura3would never know it from the pristine clear waters and bright yellow sandy shores.  Interestingly enough, most of the sands on the Fuerteventura beaches actually have been transported by sea from the Sahara desert thus giving you the experience of pristine beaches.

Most people who come to Fuerteventura arrive with one motive in mind, sunbathing on the famous Fuerteventura beaches.  The coastline is immense with over 193km of coast and over 150 beaches that are often found lined with beachfront hotels, bars, eateries and nightclubs.

The Fuerteventura villas are mostly found in the greatest density on opposite sides of Fuerteventura since the region is spilt into the North and South sectors.  On the Northern sector of Fuerteventura the beaches have white sand and a great amount of tourist facilities.

The southern side of Fuerteventura on the other hand has some of the most sophisticated resorts including the famed Morro Jable which provides some of the globe’s best surfing opportunities.  In between these two areas there are scattered villages that have resorts, hotels, beaches, and many condos.

Many of the things to do in Fuerteventura include adventure activities such as golf, snorkelling, scuba diving, hiking, windsurfing, and sailing.  The other top attractions on Fuerteventura usually include leisure activities such as sunbathing on the beaches, relaxing strolls along the shorelines, spa activities, nightclubs and discos, and shopping.

Some of the top places to visit on Fuerteventura include the La Lajita Zoo which contains botanical gardens and Europe’s largest camel reserve, the American Star Shipwreck which is the remains of a huge ship that was left grounded on the beach in 1994, and a visit to Isla Lobos which is a small island that is a complete nature reserve now and home to many nesting seabirds.

Finally, a visit to Fuerteventura is not complete without a stop by the Antigua Windmill which is the most well known landmark of Fuerteventura located in the village of Antigua.
